Gothic, renaissance and early baroque tiles of the Přerov region
We invite you to an exhibition that will present a selection of the most beautiful examples of embossed stove tiles, which were created by the hands of potters in the 15th to 17th centuries.
The exhibition will present to the professional and lay public the richness, charm and symbolism of decorative motifs of medieval to early modern tiles, which aesthetically completed the residential interiors of aristocratic residences and burgher houses. The presented specimens have been found in various archaeological sites in the Přerov region (Dobrčice, Helfštýn Castle, Hranice, Lipník nad Bečvou, Přerov) in recent years and have so far been hidden in museum depositories. These are not only collection items of the Comenius Museum in Přerov, but also of the Museum and Gallery in Hranice.
The exhibition is divided into groups of religious, fantastic, mythological, allegorical, genre, portrait, heraldic, architectural and ornamental motifs according to the form of relief decoration. A separate section consists of molds for the production of front heating walls of chamber tiles - so-called tubs.
A selection catalog created by the authors of the exhibition: archaeologist of the Comenius Museum in Přerov Zdeněk Schenek and archaeologist Irena Loskotová from the Department of Archeology and Museology of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno is also created for the exhibition.
