Comenius in collectibles

During many years of acquisition activities, the Přerov Museum has built an extensive and varied collection of documents with a Comenius motif from various collecting fields. Now he presents this unique collection to the public through the new Comenius in Collectibles catalog: a catalog of selected comeniians from the collection of the Comenius Museum in Přerov (philately, philocarty, filumenia, small prints).

This is the first publication that provides a systematic overview of postage stamps, commemorative prints, postcards, match stickers and advertising materials with the likeness of Comenius. The Přerov Museum published it on the occasion of the two anniversaries of Jan Amos Comenius commemorated in the years 2020–2022.

The first section presents postage stamps referring to Comenius, of which twenty-four species were published in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic and eight other European countries in almost a century. First day envelopes (FDC) and commemorative stamps are also presented. In addition, we managed to obtain some trial prints of unrealized stamp designs (Alois Mudruňka, Jaroslav Rijáček, M. Matouš), as well as a number of so - called cinderella stamps, ie securities, stamps, stickers, etc.

Postcards are most numerous in the catalog, whether with reproductions of Comenius' portraits, with popular paintings of historical scenes or with genre collages. Readers will also find topographic postcards from places connected with Comenius' life or with photographs of his monuments in the catalog.

The catalog also included match stickers and commemorative miniature sheets with their reproductions. Comenius appeared on the so-called Mother's Matches and also received stickers with the inscription Comenius' Matches. The conclusion of the publication is devoted to other small prints that are the subject of collectors' interest. For all, let's name the timetables, advertising fairy tales (picture cards with a short story), paper bookmarks or school notebooks.
