Mineralogy

The exhibition Collection of Minerals, numbering 2,358 items, was acquired for the museum and gradually handed over in the years 1935-1939. It was created by the former director of the Central Moravian Power Plants in Přerov, Ing. Alois Němec (1886-1959), who systematically collected minerals and rocks from all over the world and exchanged them for finds from Bohemia and Moravia.

The exhibits are stored in the original showcases donated in 1938 by the Board of Directors of Středomoravské elektrárny. The mineralogical exposition was moved here from the ground floor in 1993 and underwent renovation, during which the mineralogical and geological system was modified and the location of minerals and rocks from the Přerov region was highlighted. The exhibition is a comprehensive cross-section of the mineralogy system and some exhibits, such as minerals from Iceland, are unique in the entire Czech Republic. In 1997, the sculptor Igor Kitzberger created a bronze bust of A. Němec to complement the mineralogical exhibition.
