School maps

The core of the specialized collection consists of wall-mounted maps, designed and approved for teaching local history, geography and history. It also includes various editions of smaller hand-held and contour maps and facsimiles of historical maps. Occasionally, we find transport, tourist or military maps.

The oldest maps in the collection were published at the end of the 19th century, the majority are maps from the 20th century. The collection items come mainly from the Czech lands (Czech maps), supplemented by maps in German, used in our schools during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Protectorate. The foundation of the fund was created by collections at schools in the early 1970s. Now the collection is systematically supplemented by current production for schools and donations of old maps from all types of schools.

The collection items are displayed as examples as part of museum exhibitions - period reconstructions of school classrooms. Researchers can study them only in person. The collection documentation is being created gradually.
